UPDATE - 13 Feb 2024: Microsoft has released a new version of Microsoft Edge WebView2 v121.0.2277.112 which fixes the crashing of the SnapComms Windows App while rendering videos. If your organization is encountering this problem, please update to the latest version of WebView2. The workaround outlined below to install an older version of WebView2 is no longer required. |
Microsoft's recent release (version 121) of the Microsoft Edge WebView2 control, a component we use to render videos, has introduced compatibility issues with our application, resulting in crashes when attempting to play videos within the app. This component may be automatically updated in your environment.
If your organization utilizes SnapComms for video distribution and encounters crashes due to having WebView2 v121 installed, we offer a temporary solution detailed below. This workaround allows you to download the previous version without affecting the currently installed version.
- Install SnapComms Windows App v24.2.461.
- Download WebView2 v120 from here and extract its contents into a secure folder.
- Create a new string value [Name: app.webview2Runtime.browserExecutableFolder, Type: REG_SZ, Data: <path>] under the registry key Computer\HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\SnapComms App\Settings. Substitute <path> with the location of the extracted folder from step 1. Alternatively, the value can be added to Computer\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\WOW6432Node\SnapComms App\Settings to set the value at a machine level.
- Restart SnapComms Windows App.
