Creating Lock Screens

OVERVIEW

The SnapComms Lock Screen channel provides a way to customize this screen with important information for your staff.  The Lock Screen channel is only available with the Engage Package; for further information please inquire with your Customer Success Manager. This channel is commonly used for information campaigns such as security awareness drives or Health and Safety messages.

Please review the Technical Considerations below before implementing the Lockscreen channel.

SnapComms Windows App Profile for Lock Screen

To review, go to App Management > Windows App Profile > Default Profile

Windows defaults to blurring the sign-in screen when the Windows > Personalization > 'Transparency Effects' setting is enabled.

Select the 'Disable Windows lock screen blurring' if the organization's preference is a clear sign-in screen without the blurring effect. This functionality requires the SnapComms Windows App version 24.5.562 or higher.

If 'Disable Windows lock screen blurring' is switched on from the App Profile but the Windows User's Transparency Effect setting is enabled, the App Profile settings take preference.

TECHNICAL CONSIDERATIONS

A 'default lock screen image' needs to either be created as another Lockscreen image from SnapComms or be added to the Registry Settings (c/o your IT Team) to revert to a previous image when there is no published lock screen image; otherwise, the most recent image is cached, see note below.

PLEASE NOTE: The lock screen image does not revert to the previous lock screen image after the content from SnapComms has expired or has been disabled, the current behavior is that the most recent lockscreen image published from SnapComms is cached unless a 'default lock screen image' is set in the registry settings.

Before publishing a Lockscreen image from SnapComms, please review the following workaround options to set a default image (e.g. your corporate brand) to revert to:

[1st option]
Create another Lockscreen image from SnapComms with your corporate brand, and re-publish this once your team has disabled (or if it has expired) the previous Lockscreen image.

[2nd option]
A lockscreen default image can also be added to your machine's registry setting, this will need to be reviewed, approved, and implemented by your IT Team.
It is not recommended to use C:\Windows\ as a path for the default lock screen image due to OS conflicts.

  • From the regedit > Computer\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\WOW6432Node\SnapComms App\Settings > right click, new > string value >
  • Value name: lockscreen.defaultimage
  • Value data: (default lock screen image path, local or shared - note the image needs to be accessible from the user/machine)

lockscreen.defaultimage

With the above 'lockscreen.defaultimage' added to the registry settings, the lock screen will revert to this default image (e.g. set it to a corporate branded image) once there is no published lock screen image.
